![]() According to the UK newspaper The Daily Mail, Stevens opted to not continue as he had some movie offers up including co-staring in a Dreamworks film that would be shooting at the same as season four of Downton Abbey. In Britain, it seems the option is only for three. ![]() we’re used to actors being tied to a series for at least 5 or six years. Now, before you start hating on Julian Fellows, Matthew’s death came out of real world circumstances, not as an original plot point. Last night, at the very end of the finale, Mathew Crawley ( Dan Stevens) is driving back to Downton after holding his newborn son when he gets into a car wreck and dies. If you didn’t know it was coming, you may still be in shock.
